The River House Inn is proud to sponsor international R&B superstar Curtis Salgado in concert on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. at the Florence Events Center.

The show is a fundraiser for the Friends of the Florence Events Center. An all-volunteer non-profit that helps fund improvements at the venue and helps underwrite the cost for local performance groups to use it through the distribution of performance grants.

Curtis Salgado is a powerhouse singer/songwriter/harmonica master hailed by NPR as “a blues icon…with a huge voice,”. Curtis Salgado grew up in Eugene, Oregon, and by his early 20’s was already well known on the local bar scene with his band, The Nighthawks. He later became co-leader of the renowned Robert Cray Band. Throughout his career, Salgado has constantly honed his craft, playing and singing in the tradition of Otis Redding, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, and other blues legends.

Curtis Salgado and The Blues Brothers

Salgado was also a driving force in the creation of The Blues Brothers with John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd.

Curtis Salgado met actor John Belushi while Belushi was in Eugene in 1977 filming Animal House. The two spent hours listening to old blues records and discussing the artists. Belushi used this new-found knowledge to create The Blues Brothers with mentoring from Curtis Salgado.

According to Salgado’s website, “Award-winning soul, blues and R&B vocalist, Curtis Salgado’s earth-shaking vocals and forceful harmonica playing have been devastating audiences around the world for more than 30 years. Guitarist Alan Hager has been wowing fellow musicians from his hometown of Portland, Oregon, and beyond for decades. Hager has been jamming with Salgado since 2003 and joined his band full-time in 2015.”
