Heceta Head Lighthouse
One of my favorite drives is along Highway 101 from Florence, OR, where we operate the River House Inn, a Baymont by Wyndham, and a Super 8 by Wyndham, to Yachats, OR, where my good friend Drew Roslund operates the beautiful Overleaf Lodge and Spa. Halfway between the two locations is one of the most photographed landmarks in the country, the Heceta Head Lighthouse.
For our guests, we consider this a must-see attraction on the central Oregon Coast. You will experience stunning coastal views and natural beauty found in few other places in the world. Overlooking the Pacific Ocean are great photo ops, gorgeous sunsets, and several magnificent hiking trails that can all be experienced from Heceta Head, including the Heceta Lighthouse Trail that connects to the Oregon Coast Trail.
About Heceta Head Lighthouse
Heceta Head Lighthouse, named after Spanish explorer Bruno de Heceta, is about halfway between Florence and Yachats along Highway 101. It has been guiding seamen since 1894, and its light can be seen for over 20 nautical miles. To reach the lighthouse from the parking lot, you will follow a well-maintained trail for half a mile, passing by the lightkeeper’s house along the way. Hours vary for lighthouse and keeper’s house tours, and a day use parking permit is required, which can be purchased on-site or by using an annual state parks (add link to purchase) pass. I recommend the annual pass as it will allow you to access many of the beautiful parks along Highway 101 without incurring any additional fees.
